TURKISH QUARRY FLEET DOUBLES DRAIN INTERVALS AND REDUCES DOWNTIME WITH EUROTEC HYPERTEC 10W-40 E4/E7

Industry: Construction & Quarrying
Location: Turkey
Client: Regional Quarry Operator Managing 30 Dump Trucks in Central Anatolia
Related Product: Eurotec Hypertec 10W-40 E4/E7
Client Background
Located in the rugged terrain of Central Anatolia, the quarrying company manages a fleet of 30 heavy-
duty dump trucks used for hauling crushed limestone from extraction sites to processing stations. The
operation runs 16 hours per day, 6 days a week, with trucks frequently idling and navigating steep inclines
in dusty, abrasive environments. Because of the remote location, minimizing unplanned downtime and
maximizing oil service intervals are critical to meeting output targets and maintaining operating efficiency.
Operational Challenge
The client reported increasing engine maintenance costs and frequent oil changes. The previous lubricant
failed to maintain viscosity and base number under sustained thermal stress and soot loading. Key
symptoms included:
- Oil drain intervals limited to 250 engine hours
- Rising iron and aluminum concentrations in used oil samples
- Repeated clogging of oil filters due to soot and oxidation by-products
- Increased turbocharger deposits and piston ring sticking
- Engine idle time leading to fuel dilution and oil thinning
These problems were compounded by a lack of oil condition monitoring, which led to conservative service
intervals and over-lubrication.
Solution
After an onsite visit and equipment audit, Eurotec's technical team recommended transitioning Eurotec
Hypertec 10W-40 E4/E7, a high-performance heavy-duty diesel engine oil formulated for high-load and
high-soot environments. Its advanced additive system includes:
- High Total Base Number (TBN >10) for extended protection against acid buildup
- Excellent dispersancy to keep soot particles suspended and prevent sludge
- Shear-stable Group II base oils to maintain viscosity under mechanical stress
- Enhanced oxidation and nitration control, extending oil life in high-temperature operations
Eurotec engineers also implemented a progressive drain extension program, coupled with a monthly used
Oil analysis service that tracked viscosity, TBN, oxidation, fuel dilution, and wear metals.
Implementation Process
The transition began with a small pilot fleet of five vehicles. Each engine was flushed and filled with
Eurotec Hypertec 10W-40 E4/E7. The team conducted baseline oil sampling at 250 hours, and
incrementally extended the drain interval in 50-hour steps after verifying sample integrity.
Eurotec provided:
- Customized service interval tracking charts
- Training sessions for in-house mechanics on oil sampling and inspection
- Monthly fleet health reports consolidating oil analysis results and trend data
After three months, the program was expanded to the entire fleet.
Measured Results
• Oil drain interval extended from 250 to 500 hours without compromising protection
• Engine wear metals (Fe, Al) reduced by 40%, as measured by ICP spectroscopy
• Turbocharger cleanliness improved, with reduced carbon buildup on turbine wheels
• Unscheduled maintenance events dropped by 28%, improving fleet availability
• Annualized maintenance savings of approximately $14,500, factoring reduced oil consumption,
filters, and labor
